Born in San Jose, Batangas on 22 December 1910 to Ambrosio Makalintal and Rufina Cortinas, Querube Makalintal finished his elementary schooling in San Jose, and his high school in Batangas. He took up law at the University of the Philippines and placed seventh in the 1933 Bar examinations. (Paras, Corazon de Leon and Salcedo, Ma. He began his service in the government as a law clerk at the Metropolitan Water District from 1934 to 1936 but relinquished said post to become an Assistant and later an Associate at the Recto Law Office, working there from 1936 to 1946. He returned to government service in 1946 as a Judge of the Court of First Instance in Iloilo. He was appointed Solicitor General on February 9, 1954. He was appointed Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals and later on assumed the Presiding Justice post in 1961. He was appointed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court on May 23, 1962. He became the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court on October 24, 1973, his tenure lasting until December 22, 1975.

 

Querube Makalintal was married to Rosario Gonzales with whom he had three children. He died on November 8, 2002.
