Born in Manila on 16 June 1914, Guillermo Torres graduated from the University of the Philippines, AA and BSBA. He earned his Bachelor of Laws degree from the Far Eastern University. He also took graduate studies in the Columbia University in New York City. Aside from being a member of the Philippines Bar, he is also a certified public account. He completed the Advanced Management Course at Harvard University and a Ll.D. from the John Dewey University.

 

He was president and chairman of the Mindanao Broadcasting System; president of the Mindanao Times and Mindanao Publishers Inc., and of the Mindanao Securities Corporation as well as at least two savings associations and rural banks in Mindanao. He also headed the Davao Agricultural Foundation that offered free education to Mindanao youth.

 

Guillermo Torres was married to Dolores Pilapil with whom he had three children.
